The $100,000 for the Reyes family was not a headline strategy.

Community Rallying for Reyes Family After Tragic Shooting
On February 14, 2024, a shooting incident in the city left the community in shock. Among the injured were two young sisters from the Reyes family, both of whom sustained serious leg injuries requiring surgery. The sisters are expected to spend months in casts as they recover.
In response to the family’s medical expenses, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated with a target of $100,000. Remarkably, two substantial donations of $50,000 each from the organization Eighty-Seven and Running fully matched the goal, even as contributions from over a thousand other donors continued to come in.
The Reyes family expressed their gratitude in a statement: “On behalf of the Reyes Family, we are incredibly grateful for the love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. Our family, along with the other families impacted by this senseless act, are still healing physically and emotionally.”
