A year later at WrestleMania 25, Punk made history by becoming the first WWE superstar to win two MITB ladder matches, and that too in back-to-back years. He was once again successful in cashing it in at WWE Extreme Rules 2009 on Jeff Hardy and won his second World Heavyweight Championship. The Second City Saint went on to cash it in on Edge successfully after he was assaulted by Batista on RAW and won his first-ever WWE World Championship on the main roster (excluding the ECW World title).
With the WWE Premium Live Event approaching fast, it will be interesting to see if Punk can make it to the ladder match and etch a significant record to his already illustrious resume.
However, looking at the developments as of this writing, there is only one superstar who has a chance to create history and set an impressive record at Money in the Bank 2026. WWE’s next major event is the enthralling Money in the Bank, known for altering careers like no other. The match has been the catalyst for various legendary names like Edge, Seth Rollins, Nikki A.S.H. , Carmella, and many more to claim their first World title and ascend to main event status. This year will also feature two namesake ladder matches for the Men’s and Women’s side. That superstar is known other than CM Punk.
CM Punk has been announced to compete in a Money in the Bank 2026 qualifying match next week on SmackDown. Should he qualify and head to Money in the Bank 2026, he has the opportunity to become the first-ever and only three-time Money in the Bank ladder match winner , creating major history. He will square off against Finn Balor and Gunther. The Voice of the Voiceless already has two Money in the Bank ladder match victories etched to his resume.
