Airtel prepaid users can now watch YouTube without ads: The wider industry impact

YouTube Premium now comes with Airtel prepaid

The telecom operator has partnered with YouTube to bundle YouTube Premium with its Rs 200 OTT top-up, which also carries 30GB of additional data and a 28-day validity. It now sits alongside Prime Video, JioHotstar, ZEE5 Premium, SonyLIV and more than 18 other OTT platforms already included in the pack. Airtel prepaid users can now watch YouTube without ads. The subscription covers ad-free regular videos and Shorts, background play, offline downloads and YouTube Music Premium, subject to terms and conditions.

YouTube charges Rs 159 for a one-month prepaid Premium subscription in India, while its auto-renewing individual plan costs Rs 149. Airtel’s pack asks for Rs 41 over the prepaid price and adds 30GB of data plus the wider OTT bundle. The top-up works across existing prepaid plans, provided the user has an active recharge. For anyone already paying YouTube directly, that gap is easy to justify. Airtel is pitching the bundle around how people now spend their mobile data: following creators, catching up on shows and streaming music. Adding YouTube to a pack already heavy on streaming services brings creator content and music into the same recharge. Once the top-up is purchased, users need to open the Airtel app, head to the ‘Rewards & OTTs’ section and claim YouTube Premium from there.

When the 28-day validity ends, so does ad-free YouTube. Users who want to continue will need to buy the Rs 200 top-up again and re-claim the benefit through the app. The subscription runs only as long as the top-up. You use AI every day. Now get your AI Quotient. Take the AIQ test.
