American intelligence agencies have concluded that a Chinese: The wider industry impact

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang

The two were photographed at a Taipei bar in June 2024, sharing whiskey with other AI executives after a trade show. They were spotted again leaving a business dinner in the city in May 2025. Megaspeed’s Malaysian sister company bought at least $4.8 billion worth of advanced AI equipment with Nvidia chips between June 2024 and February 2026, NYT reports, citing ImportGenius trade records. The Commerce Department began looking into Megaspeed in late 2024, after an official visiting its Malaysian data centre found the Nvidia equipment still sitting in boxes.

American intelligence agencies have concluded that a Chinese businesswoman with a close relationship to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was passing information to Beijing, according to a New York Times report. President Donald Trump was briefed on the findings about a year ago and chose not to act, the report says. Spokesperson John Rizzo said Huang’s meetings with her were neither unusual nor unexpected, adding that “Jensen talks with thousands of customer executives every year. He said customers like Megaspeed get routine business information, not trade secrets, and nothing relevant to national security. Megaspeed said it has hired outside counsel for an internal probe and will cooperate with the US government.

The woman, Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, is a Chinese citizen and a top executive at Megaspeed, a Singapore-based data centre company already under US scrutiny for allegedly steering advanced Nvidia AI chips to China. Jensen Huang has not received a defensive briefing, the warning US agencies sometimes give Americans targeted by foreign spies. Surveillance of Alice Huang is still ongoing, and companies linked to her kept buying Nvidia chips this year. China has rejected the allegation. Liu Chang, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, accused the US of running a campaign of baseless smears against Beijing. Nvidia played it down. Citing people briefed on the matter, NYT reports that US agencies were electronically monitoring Alice Huang when they found she was in contact with an American citizen. A process known as unmasking later identified that person as the Nvidia chief. When Trump was first briefed, officials did not think Jensen Huang knew what she was doing. Some senior administration officials now doubt he could have stayed in the dark. The firm buys chips, builds data centres in Southeast Asia and rents the computing power to Chinese companies, with Alibaba as its main client. US investigators suspect some of those chips are slipping into China illegally. That case has since moved to the Justice Department. The findings surface weeks before Trump’s visit to China next month, where chip exports are likely to be on the agenda. Jensen Huang has spent Trump’s second term lobbying to ease curbs on Nvidia sales to China, and he sat at the head table when Xi Jinping attended a White House state dinner last month.
