Apple confirms October 28 event with first touchscreen MacBook Pro expected
Apple has scheduled another product event for October 28, its second this month, and this one is all about the Mac and iPad.
Called “Pro and Tell,” the event will take place in Los Angeles at 10am Pacific Time, which is 10:30pm IST. The big reveal is expected to be Apple’s first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen and an OLED display.
Reports suggest the new hardware could go on sale as early as November 6. The OLED MacBook Pro is tipped to come in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. Earlier this month, touch-related references turned up in the macOS 27.2 developer beta, which lends weight to the rumours. Apple is also expected to refresh the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and the 24-inch iMac with the M6 chip, which debuted on the Mac mini in August. The eighth-generation model is tipped to get an 8.4-inch OLED screen, a vibration-based speaker system designed to improve water resistance, and a FaceTime camera moved to the landscape edge. Before that came the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro series in September and the M6 Mac mini in August.
Like the smart home showcase earlier this month, this won’t be a typical keynote.
It is said to run on the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips rather than the newer M6. The October 28 event follows Apple’s “Welcome home” showcase in New York on October 13, where the company unveiled the HomeView smart display, the HomePod mini 2 and a new Apple TV 4K. Apple has invited media and creators to an in-person experience with hands-on time with the new devices. Beyond touch support, it is expected to get a Dynamic Island, a first for any Mac, and to be noticeably lighter than the current Pro models. Both are likely to keep their current designs. The iPad mini is also due for an upgrade. Rumours point to the A20 chip powering it. After phones, watches and smart home gear, Apple is ending its busiest autumn in years with its Pro lineup.
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, teased the event on X on Monday with a short post: “Can’t wait to pro and tell next week.
