Apple fans may have to wait longer for iPhone Duo, as here’s what causing production slowdowns
Analyst Jeff Pu (first reported by 9to5Mac) has reportedly cut his estimate for the number of iPhone Duo units Apple will ship in 2026. For those unaware, Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo last week, but unlike the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, it will arrive later. Pre-orders are set to open on October 16, with the first deliveries expected on October 23. Apple is now expected to ship around 6 million iPhone Duo units in 2026, down from his earlier estimate of 7 million, according to a research note from Pu seen by 9to5Mac.
The reported production slowdown could make it harder for buyers to get the foldable iPhone at launch.
The reduction is linked to production problems involving the phone’s hinge, rather than a lack of demand, he says. Pu attributed the lower forecast to “hinge constraints” affecting production. Apple fans looking to buy the iPhone Duo, the company’s first foldable iPhone, may face limited availability when the device goes on sale.
iPhone Duo features and price
Apple has launched the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone on September 9, 20206. The frame and hinge cover are grade 5 titanium, the front carries Ceramic Shield 2 with three times the scratch resistance of the last generation, and the phone is rated IP68. Inside is the same A20 Pro as the iPhone 18 Pro, built on a 2nm process, with a 6-core CPU that is 20 per cent quicker than the A19 Pro, a 7-core GPU up 40 per cent, a dual 16-core Neural Engine and 50 per cent more memory bandwidth. It uses a 48MP Dual Fusion system, a Fusion Main with sensor-shift stabilisation and a 2x optical-quality crop plus the same 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide as the iPhone 18 Pro
The inner display is built from ten ultra-thin layers with wide-angle OLEDs, and the FaceTime camera sits under the panel so nothing interrupts the surface.
