In an X (formerly Twitter) post, Zohran Mamdani said his administration is releasing the first 170,000 pages of documents, saying the records show that the City government knew conditions around Ground Zero were dangerous but “lied to New Yorkers. ” The move comes as families and first responders continue to seek answers about the health effects of 9/11, with Mamdani saying more people have died from related illnesses than were killed on the day of the attacks. “My administration is launching a free online portal for 9/11-related documents and releasing the first 170,000 pages today — available now at http://nyc.gov/sept11docs,” Mamdani wrote. “As we mark twenty five years since September 11th, our vow to Never Forget will not waver. For years, New Yorkers have demanded access to City records about the lasting health impacts of the horrific September 11th attacks. For years, they have been denied and ignored. These records prove what families and first responders have long known: City government knew the conditions around Ground Zero were dangerous — yet lied to New Yorkers. Thousands pay the price for this. They bear the effects of that day every time they struggle to breathe or visit the doctor. As we remember that terrible day, let us also remember the first responders, office workers and strangers who ran toward danger to help each other. Let us remember the extraordinary compassion, resilience and bravery that carried our city through its darkest day. We will Never Forget,” Mamdani wrote on X.
