At Microsoft Ignite 2025, Microsoft announced Agent 365, a new platform designed to help companies manage and govern the increasing deployment and usage of AI agents. Agent 365 will serve as a control plane for AI agents, enabling organisations to deploy, organise, and govern their agents securely. As AI agents are already automating tasks and accelerating productivity across industries, the anticipated multiplication and sophistication of these agents pose a challenge for businesses to manage and govern them responsibly and at scale. The software giant suggests the practical approach to this new challenge is to manage agents using infrastructure, apps and protections similar to those currently used to manage employees and power business operations.

How Microsoft’s Agent 365 will help companies
Through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and Microsoft Entra registry, IT teams can track agents with Entra IDs, those registered in the Teams Store, and soon, shadow agents. Interoperability allows agents to access the same apps and data users rely on—including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Dynamics 365—through Work IQ, which provides organisational context. Agent 365 supports development across Microsoft platforms, open-source frameworks, and partner clouds via Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry, the Agent Framework, and the Agent 365 SDK.
The Registry serves as a central inventory of all agents within an organisation, including usage and security information. IT admins can also quarantine unsanctioned agents to prevent users or company systems from accessing them. The registry supports IT, developers, security, and business teams, while the Agent Store enables employees to find agents suited to their workflows.
