In a recent announcement, the company said messages from participating public channels in Discoverable Servers could appear on server web pages and in web search from mid-December 2026. Discord will soon make some public server messages searchable online. The rollout will be gradual, so the first messages may take several weeks to appear.
These servers must have at least 1,000 members, be at least eight weeks old, and meet activity and safety requirements. Only messages sent from mid-December onwards in participating public channels will be eligible. Discord began rolling out these controls on October 27, ahead of the message-sharing launch. Turning the setting off later prevents future messages from appearing. Public channels remain enabled by default if administrators make no changes. Every Discoverable Server will have a Server Web Page from November 16. If administrators have not created one, Discord will publish a default page using the server’s profile details. Automated Channel Summaries may also begin appearing that day, drawing on conversations from November 16 onwards.
The change is intended to make community knowledge, including gaming guides and answers to common questions, accessible outside Discord. Administrators can decide which channels participate, while members can control whether their messages appear. The announcement refers to web search generally and does not specifically name Google Search. Private servers, direct messages and group direct messages are excluded. The changes apply only to Discoverable Servers, which include communities listed in Discord’s Server Discovery that anyone can join without an invitation. Discord will label channels whose content may appear on the web. The switch applies across every Discoverable Server the member belongs to. Messages shared while it was enabled remain online unless the member deletes them from Discord. Administrators can open Server Settings > Web Presence to select participating channels or exclude all channels. These summaries are controlled separately: a member opting out of message sharing does not disable them. Administrators can choose their source channels, curate the summaries, or turn them off entirely. You use AI every day. Now get your AI Quotient. Take the AIQ test.
Earlier messages will not be included, regardless of a member’s settings.
Usernames and avatars will not appear alongside messages on Server Web Pages. Teen users are excluded from the Channel Messages feature and cannot enable it until adulthood. In the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and South Korea, the member setting is off by default. Members in these regions must enable it before their messages can appear. Elsewhere, the setting is on by default unless members turn it off. A message can appear only if the server’s administrators also allow the channel to participate. Members can disable sharing through these steps:
- Open User Settings
- Select Data and Privacy.
- Turn off “Show my message content from Discoverable channels on web pages”.
