Priscilla Chan, wife of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s wife, Priscilla Chan, has donated $330,000 to schools in Kauai, Hawaii. The grants will support all 16 public schools and seven public charter schools on the Hawaiian island, along with Kumu’s Cupboard, a Līhuʻe nonprofit that provides free classroom supplies to teachers and educational support staff throughout the year. The funding is unrestricted, allowing school leaders to direct resources towards their individual needs. Chan and her husband, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, also supported a local back-to-school event that distributed more than 3,000 backpacks filled with classroom supplies to students from kindergarten through grade 12. Established in 2019 by Chan and Zuckerberg, the fund focuses on community needs identified through conversations with local residents, leaders and service providers.
The Chan Zuckerberg Kauaʻi Community Fund announced the funding a few months ago as students prepared to return to classrooms for the new school year. The Chan Zuckerberg Kauaʻi Community Fund, part of the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation (HCF), announced the grants to help schools, teachers and students prepare for the academic year.
