Google has announced updates to Fitbit Air and Google Health, aimed: The wider industry impact

These updates are added to already available features (more than 55) and fixes, including more customisation to Today tab, expanded focus metrics, improved Coach memory, deepened Apple Health integration. Google has announced updates to Fitbit Air and Google Health, aimed at making activity tracking smarter and health insights more helpful.

It can now track more than 100 activities, up from 10 earlier. Workouts that meet your minimum duration threshold (15 minutes by default) with a sustained elevated heart rate are automatically logged, and a summary is sent to users’ mobile app, typically within 30 minutes.

Google says the feature uses contextual reasoning, drawing on a user’s workout routines and past data, to work out what they are doing. This makes activity detection nearly twice as accurate and cuts missed workouts by more than half, according to the company. Fitbit Air’s automatic activity detection has been upgraded. When users confirm or edit an activity, they are improving a feature that learns their unique patterns and uses them to refine its predictions.

This experience is available across Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5 later this month,” the company added.

Google Health factors are powered by contextual reasoning in critical context, including workout routines, historical data, manual edits, and, with permission, user location “to deliver nearly 2x more accurate detections and cut missed workouts by more than half.” “By automatically logging your workouts, even when you forget, it helps you stay focused on your workout rather than your screen.

Later this month, Health Guardian, Google’s suite of health and safety features, will also arrive on Fitbit Air for Google Health Premium subscribers. With it, users can: Track blood pressure and insulin resistance trends in the Google Health app. Get personalised wellness guidance from Google Health Coach, based on those patterns.
