Samsung P9, P7 USB4 SSDs launched in India
Samsung has announced the P9 and P7 portable SSDs in India, its first external drives to move to USB4, with prices starting at Rs 27,839 and availability from the first week of September.
The P9 tops out at 4,000MB/s sequential reads and 3,800MB/s writes. It is priced at Rs 32,639 for 1TB, Rs 62,399 for 2TB, Rs 129,599 for 4TB and Rs 259,199 for 8TB. The P7 starts at Rs 27,839 for 1TB and goes up through Rs 52,799, Rs 110,399 and Rs 219,839 for the 2TB, 4TB and 8TB variants. Samsung is also calling the 8TB P9 the world’s first USB4 portable SSD at 4,000MB/s, and says sustained write performance is strong enough for 12K direct recording, which is aimed squarely at people shooting RAW stills and very large video files. The P9 picked up a CES 2026 Innovation Award earlier this year. It connects to desktops, laptops, phones, gaming consoles and cameras, and Samsung says it has cleared 2-metre drop testing along with shock and vibration testing.
Because the outgoing T9 was stuck on USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, which capped it at roughly 2,000MB/s, the jump matters. Samsung notes that available capacities may vary by market. Doubling that is the whole pitch. The more affordable drive uses the same USB4 interface but is positioned for regular use rather than production work.
