Anthropic

Anthropic investors expect the company to target a valuation between $1 trillion and $1.5 trillion, which is essentially a noticeable step down from the $2 trillion figure floated in recent months, according to a CNBC report. Last week, the Nasdaq logged its steepest drop in 19 months. The index is already down to start November, following an October that stood as its worst month since March 2025. Local resistance was just as stark: communities voted down data centre-related ballot measures in 40 out of 41 races.

Due to that corporate focus, Anthropic largely avoided becoming the public face of AI, leaving that spotlight to OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman.

The AI company is gearing up for a potentially historic Nasdaq debut, likely aiming for mid-November, according to a report. More than half of voters said AI data centers were a “crucial” or “major factor” in choosing who to back for Congress, according to an NBC News exit poll. American voters made their frustration with tech billionaires and artificial intelligence (AI) clear at the ballot box this week. Now, Anthropic is walking straight into that headwind as it prepares to go public. From Wall Street to Main Street, the backdrop for Anthropic’s public offering has grown much tougher. Companies tied most closely to the AI infrastructure buildout, particularly chipmakers and neocloud providers, are taking the hardest hit in the selloff. “People don’t want a data center going near them if it’s just going to house AI that’s going to help a big tech company profit. What Anthropic is doing when they’re going public with such a high valuation is they’re really leaning into that big tech, billionaire kind of caricature. I expect that’s not going to go well with the public,” CNBC quoted Maura Austin, a behavioural scientist at the University of Virginia, as saying. Founded by CEO Dario Amodei and a group of researchers who broke away from OpenAI, Anthropic has long tried to position itself as a safety-conscious company that takes AI’s risks and benefits seriously. It is best known for building the Claude family of AI models, which it sells mostly to other businesses.
