Reddit splits its home feed in two
Because their feed reflects communities they picked, some who saw the feature during testing have already complained, and plenty of regulars value Reddit precisely. Earlier this year, Reddit announced it would deprecate r/all, the page that surfaced popular posts from across the platform, as part of a push to simplify the site and personalise Home.
The platform has split its homepage into two feeds, “For You” and “Following,” a format TikTok made popular, and the new layout is rolling out globally over the next few weeks. Reddit says the idea is discovery. The change puts Reddit in line with Instagram, X, Threads and Facebook, all of which lean on “For You”-style feeds. For them, Old Reddit at old.reddit.com still offers the classic “best,” “hot,” “new,” “rising” and “controversial” sorting. Reddit has said it will limit Old Reddit access for accounts that haven’t used it recently, blaming AI bots, so anyone attached to it should log in soon.
Reddit is changing what users see the moment they open the app. Following sticks to posts from subreddits a user has already joined. For You mixes those posts with recommendations based on their interests, including communities they browse but have never subscribed to. Someone who keeps checking r/Silksong without joining it could now find those threads near the top of their home feed. In a blog post, the company described the new feeds as “a first step in helping drive discovery that leads to something novel and relevant. Switching between the two takes a tap, and Reddit remembers the last one used. Close the app on Following, and it opens on Following next time. The shift has been building for months. Recommended posts from outside a user’s subreddits aren’t new either. They simply get their own dedicated space now. Not every user is on board, though. You use AI every day.
