Iran has described the United States’ response to its seven conditions for reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz as “insufficient”, with security chief Mohsen Rezaei saying Washington must clarify issues that remain unresolved. “We presented seven conditions to the Americans and clearly stated that the Strait of Hormuz would not be opened to them, and no negotiations would take place, until these conditions are met,” Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was quoted as saying by state media on Sunday. Tehran says some US responses remain unclear Rezaei said Tehran was no longer waiting to respond to Washington. “In their response, they have accepted some of our conditions, while others remain unclear,” he said. Iran said in late September that it had received a US response to its latest proposal to revive the collapsed ceasefire in the Gulf, days after US President Donald Trump said he had rejected it.
Iran submitted the proposal during the UN General Assembly, offering to restore normal maritime traffic through the vital waterway within seven days if its conditions were met, as per Reuters. You use AI every day. Now get your AI Quotient. Take the AIQ test.
Qatar and other mediators have been relaying messages between Washington and Tehran in an effort to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route that carried about a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies before the war began in late February with US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
