NEW DELHI: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed his lawyers to file a libel lawsuit against left-wing newspaper Haaretz, journalist Shlomi Eldar and other parties over what he described as a fabricated report claiming that the United Arab Emirates warned him about a possible Hamas attack before October 7. The letter said: “Contrary to the claims, from the beginning of September until October 7, no conversation took place between the Prime Minister and the President of the United Arab Emirates. Eldar himself said last night in an interview on Channel 12 that the conversation he claims took place, in which he claimed a warning was given to the Prime Minister, was conducted in this manner.
Netanyahu shared a letter detailing the planned lawsuit in a post on X, accusing Haaretz and Eldar of publishing a false account of a conversation that, he said, never took place. In a letter titled “Lies Made in “Haaretz””, Netanyahu said the alleged conversation between him and the President of the United Arab Emirates did not take place between the beginning of September and October 7. Eldar also lied when he said that Egypt warned the Prime Minister of a possible attack—a claim that was already debunked at the beginning of the war.
The Prime Minister’s Office, the National Security Council, and the Military Secretary meticulously reviewed the Prime Minister’s call log for those days—and found no trace of it whatsoever. However, a thorough investigation conducted not only in the Prime Minister’s call log but also in the records of entries to the Prime Minister’s Office during that period shows no entry of the Emirati representative to the Prime Minister’s Office.
