Security official killed by unidentified gunmen; 5 cops injured in separate grenade blast — Pakistan

Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

Two unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle targeted the official, who was posted with the Counter Terrorism Department, according to police. In a separate incident in Mohmand district, five policemen were injured when two unidentified men hurled a hand grenade at a police post in Ambar tehsil, police said. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Badaber Police Station on the outskirts of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He was killed on the spot, while the assailants fled the scene following the attack.

A security official was killed on Sunday after unidentified gunmen opened fire in northwest Pakistan, police said, according to news agency PTI.

The injured policemen were taken to a nearby hospital and are said to be out of danger. Police retaliated with gunfire, forcing the attackers to flee. An investigation is underway.
