The United States has approved a major arms deal worth $686 million to sell advanced technology and support for F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan, Dawn reported citing a Defense Security Cooperation Agency letter to US Congress.
Additionally, it said that the deal would allow “seamless integration and interoperability between the Pakistan Air Force and the US Air Force in combat operations, exercises, and training, and refurbishment will extend the aircraft life through 2040 while addressing critical flight safety concerns. “The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to India of Javelin Missile System and related equipment for an estimated cost of $45.7 million.
The deal would “support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by allowing Pakistan to retain interoperability with US and partner forces in ongoing counterterrorism efforts and in preparation for future contingency operations,” the letter said. “It provides the warfighter key theatre functions such as surveillance, identification, air control, weapons engagement coordination, and direction for all services and allied forces,” the letter said. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress,” a report by Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) had said.
The deal will also supply Pakistan with engineering, technical, and logistics assistance from both the US government and contractors, along with studies, surveys, and other supporting program and logistical services.
