The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle , has said she was informed about “disturbing allegations” against her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr, in 2018, after a letter containing the claims was sent to the Metropolitan Police in London. “I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed,” Meghan said in a statement issued through her spokesperson. “I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father, and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them,” she said. Describing the latest developments as deeply disturbing, Meghan said her hope was that justice would be served and that the safety and protection of children would remain the priority. The Metropolitan Police and Thomas Markle have been contacted for comment, according to the BBC.
It contained allegations against her father, and she was assured that they were being investigated. Meghan also sought to explain her decision to remain estranged from her father and not allow him to meet her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
