Harmeet K Dhillon says she faces racist attacks daily.
She was nominated by President Donald Trump in December 2024, confirmed by the Senate on April 3, 2025, and sworn in as assistant attorney general for civil rights on April 7, 2025. As Dhillon announced in her weekend wishing post that she was going to spend time with her family, she posted a photo of her Indian dinner plate and detailed the items, including beef.
US Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet K Dhillon was at the center of a mini-MAGA implosion this weekend as she said she faces racist attacks daily. Social media users said this must be a dig at Erike Kirk, Sara Gonzales and the MAGA podcasters Dhillon has spoken to. Social media users called her out for eating beef and she said eating beef is not prohibited in the Sikh religion.
One side of MAGA asked her to leave the US and got blocked by her, while the other side called her a true American. But all of it started with Dhillon’s ‘Happy weekend’ post and then ended with her photo of a beef dinner. Conservative commentator and author Megan Basham expressed shock that Dhillon was ever called a ‘paperwork American’ but Dhillon set the record straight and added: “I get racist comments like this daily and many top social media accounts, including many whose shows I have appeared on dozens of times, are spewing this racist crap, and I’m sick of it. Dhillon, who was born in Chandigarh, India, moved with her family to the United States after living in London. She attended Dartmouth College before earning her law degree from the University of Virginia.
