Trump backs IMEC, calls for shift in Middle East energy routes away from Iran
Trump said the corridor could help create alternative routes for energy and trade as the region faces continued disruptions linked to the conflict. Addressing a meeting with GCC and Arab leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Trump said attacks on commercial shipping in neighbouring countries had underscored the need to shift the region’s energy infrastructure away from vulnerable routes. Earlier on Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Trump was open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his visit to New York for the UN General Assembly.
