Agra : A 38-year-old man died after allegedly falling from the third floor of a building during a police raid in Agra on Saturday. His family accused two constables of pushing him, following which they were suspended.
Police said constables Akash Sharma and Shubham Rathi posted on patrol duty in Rawali area under Rakabganj police station, received a tip-off about gambling activities in a room. When they reached the building to verify the information, four to five people present there allegedly fled on seeing them. Additional police personnel were deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.
In view of the allegations, the constables concerned have been suspended with immediate effect,” the DCP said. Rajput’s family, however, alleged that he was pushed by the constables during the raid and accused them of entering the Phatak Wali Building without informing senior officers. “The deceased’s family has levelled allegations against policemen deployed on the Cheetah mobile patrol team.
The allegations triggered a protest by Rajput’s family on Saturday morning, with the situation turning tense after some women allegedly clashed with policemen at the spot.
“Further legal action will be taken on the basis of facts and evidence,” he said. He added that the case has been handed over to the assistant commissioner of police, Chhatta Circle, for an impartial and detailed investigation.
