Hyderabad: Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday called upon young filmmakers to use their creativity to produce short films that inspire society to think and act on important societal issues.
Bhatti was speaking after inaugurating the Bathukamma Young Filmmaker Challenge Awards–2026 presentation at Shilpakala Vedika.
The govt, he said, was committed to nurturing Telangana’s young cinematic talent and strengthening Hyderabad’s position as a prominent filmmaking destination at the national level. The deputy CM said cinema should not be confined to entertainment but should also serve as a powerful medium for communicating messages that benefit society. Young filmmakers, he said, should play an active role in alerting the public to these emerging challenges.
He emphasised that the state govt’s objective was to develop Hyderabad beyond its identity as a hub for Telugu cinema and establish it as a major destination for Indian cinema. He pointed out that climate change, the effects of a possible Super El Nino, rising temperatures and changes in rainfall patterns could significantly affect people’s lives in the coming years.
