Jhansi : A court in Jhansi has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against actor Rakhi Sawant for failing to appear in connection with a 2010 case involving the alleged abetment of the suicide of a 24-year-old man who was reportedly humiliated on her reality show, ‘Rakhi Ka Insaaf’.
Laxman had married Anita on Feb 19, 2010, but the couple frequently had disputes over various issues. He subsequently became severely unwell and ended his life in Nov 2010 at Jhansi Medical College. The case originated in the Prem Nagar police station area, where Savitri Devi lodged an FIR following the death of her son, Laxman Prasad Ahirwar. His family alleged that the incident left him deeply distressed and damaged his social reputation. The family alleged that the public humiliation and resulting distress contributed to his death.
District Government Counsel (DGC) Mridul Kant Srivastava said the CAW-Fast Track Court (FTC) issued the warrant on Friday after Sawant failed to appear despite the ongoing proceedings.
Srivastava said Sawant would now have to appear before the court and seek bail in accordance with the legal process. The case had triggered considerable controversy over the programme’s handling of personal disputes and its alleged impact on the individuals featured on it.
