USED SYRINGES FOUND AT RACE COURSE STADIUM TOILETS; POLICE LAUNCH INVESTIGATION
Madurai : Madurai city police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a number of used syringes, several with the needles still attached, scattered inside the restrooms of the MGR Race Course Stadium in the city.
Police sources said that they are probing multiple angles to identify the source of the syringes and those responsible for discarding them. The incident has raised health, safety and biohazard concerns among athletes, coaches and morning walkers who frequent the facility daily. Personnel also scanned the entire stadium compound to check for additional traces of illicit substances, drug paraphernalia or related evidence. To establish the exact nature of the fluids, police have collected the discarded syringes under strict safety protocols and dispatched them to an accredited forensic science laboratory for detailed chemical analysis. Forensic tests are expected to identify the precise medicinal or chemical compounds present inside the needles, which will guide the police in determining the appropriate legal action.
A district sports official said that they have filed a complaint with the Tallakulam police station, following which a case has been registered and an investigation has been opened.
