“The departments concerned must ensure that residents do not face hardship in accessing drinking water,” he said, stressing that water supply should remain uninterrupted despite the rainfall deficit. Officials said the focus remains on conserving available water, strengthening supply systems and ensuring timely support reaches drought-hit villages before the summer intensifies. The review meeting was attended by Parbhani collector Sanjaysinh Chavan, superintendent of police Pankaj Kumawat, zilla parishad CEO Natisha Mathur and municipal commissioner Nitin Narvekar, among other senior officials. He inspected standing crops, interacted with farmers and sought details about losses and challenges arising from the deficient monsoon.
Earlier in the day, Shreekant visited Takli (Ku) village in Parbhani taluka to assess drought conditions on the ground.
Reviewing the drought-like situation in Parbhani on Friday, Shreekant stressed the need for coordinated planning to ensure available reservoir stocks last for the next 10 months. In a significant relief measure, he instructed the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd ( MSEDCL ) not to disconnect power supply to drinking water schemes solely due to pending electricity bills. He directed the district administration, zilla parishad and water resources department to prepare a comprehensive plan for the judicious use of water released from major irrigation projects.
The village-level teams will act as the administration’s eyes and ears, ensuring timely information reaches officials and enabling quick intervention. Shreekant also asked officials to expedite pending water supply projects and works under the Jal Jeevan Mission, while focusing on permanent solutions to recurring water scarcity.
