Delhi police freeze Rs 3.7 crore in record narcotics proceeds clampdown

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: In what Delhi Police described as one of the rarest financial crackdowns on a narcotics syndicate, the South-East district has secured a freezing order for Rs 3.7 crore in alleged illicit proceeds linked to a narcotics syndicate, marking the highest amount covered by such an order since Competent Authority for North India was established in 1976.

The action followed an investigation into a drug supply network that led to the arrest of eight alleged members and the seizure of 1.4 kg of smack.

Police said the probe began with the apprehension of local drug peddlers before uncovering links to intermediaries, suppliers and major stockists operating from Faridabad in Haryana. Police said a copy of the order has been received by Sunit. DCP (South-East) Vineet Kumar formed a team under ACP Anil Sharma to investigate the case registered at Okhla Industrial Area police station under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Gopi Singh is currently lodged in Faridabad jail in connection with another case registered in Haryana. The freezing order will be served on him through the jail authorities, aimed at preventing the accused from dealing with the identified proceeds while the investigation into their alleged source continues. Police are now working to establish the complete financial trail, identify additional assets and ascertain whether more people were involved.

Officers said the investigation is not limited to the seizure of narcotics and arrests, but also seeks to target financial gains allegedly generated by illegal trade.
