Bengaluru: A house renovation job led to a loss for a family after gold jewellery, weighing 254 grams, and Rs 5 lakh in cash were stolen from a cupboard while polishing work was underway. The theft allegedly took place around 12.30pm on Oct 10, when the family was away from home. However, it came to light only on Oct 18, when they opened the cupboard and found the valuables missing. The stolen gold jewellery, worth around Rs 25.4 lakh, included seven pairs of bangles, two chains, five rings, three children’s rings, a five-gram coin, a three-gram pendant, two pairs of earrings and a necklace set, the complaint said.

The house owner suspects the involvement of three labourers, engaged for the work, in the crime.
