Police seized 16 iron strips, 10 debit cards, three mobile phones, Rs 1,900 cash and a car from them in southwest Delhi’s Bindapur. New Delhi: Two men were caught red-handed tampering with an ATM to fraudulently withdraw cash Friday.
DCP (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh said, “The accused, Samim (30) and Munfed (33), both residents of Haryana’s Palwal district, were apprehended following a tip-off. A Bindapur police team laid a trap at an ATM in B-Block, Kiran Garden, Uttam Nagar, where the duo were allegedly inserting iron strips into the machine to manipulate it and withdraw cash.”
An FIR was registered at Bindapur police station under sections 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 305 (theft in a dwelling house, means of transportation, place of worship or other specified places), 324(3) (mischief causing loss or damage of Rs 20,000 or more but less than Rs 1 lakh), 312 (attempt to commit robbery or dacoity while armed with a deadly weapon), 62 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) and 3(5) (criminal acts committed by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that shortly before their arrest, they had tampered with another ATM using an iron strip and had successfully withdrawn Rs 500. They also claimed to have inserted iron strips into four to five other ATMs but failed to withdraw cash. Investigation is under way to ascertain their involvement in other such incidents. Download the TOI App.
