NAMAKKAL: Police imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on two private buses for failing to stop at the Pallipalayam bus stand in Namakkal district and causing inconvenience to passengers.
A 3.5km flyover connecting Pallipalayam and Tiruchengode is widely used by commuters travelling to and fro Namakkal, Rasipuram and Erode. “We counselled the drivers, pointing out that commuters were forced to wait for buses in heavy rain while operators continued to ignore them,” the DSP said. However, residents have complained that several govt and private buses frequently bypassed the Pallipalayam bus stand by using the flyover, leaving passengers stranded for long periods. Acting on the complaints, a police team led by Pallipalayam DSP Gauthaman conducted a vehicle inspection on the new flyover. The team intercepted two private buses that had bypassed the Pallipalayam bus stand without picking up passengers. Police seized a high-decibel horn from one of the buses and imposed fines on two-wheeler riders for not wearing helmets and on motorists for violating one-way traffic rules. Download the TOI App.
