Navi Mumbai: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the proposed Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA), near Navi Mumbai International Airport, is expected to generate more than 15 lakh jobs, with locals prioritised by talent. Describing NAINA as a new township modelled on Navi Mumbai, Fadnavis said the planned city would become a major growth centre for Maharashtra over the next 50 years. Fadnavis said 4,000 landholders had received property cards before work began on the township. Remaining beneficiaries would receive cards in phases under the land-pooling formula, while landholders would receive developed land equivalent to 40% of the area they surrendered as compensation. With 40% developed land in return for their holdings, many did not know where their plots would be allotted, while some found discrepancies at the locations shown to them.

Fadnavis said the airport should be viewed not merely as an aviation facility but as an economic multiplier capable of boosting the region’s gross domestic product. Acknowledging delays, Fadnavis said farmers had lacked confidence in the land-allotment process. The CM said govt had authorised CIDCO to rectify errors in the final development plan, including overlapping plots, incorrect plot numbers and discrepancies in land-ownership records.

The CM made the statement while performing bhoomipujan for infrastructure works in NAINA and distributing property cards to landholders who had surrendered land. The foundation stone was to be laid only after farmers received their land documents, with issues being resolved village by village.
