Navi Mumbai: The state FDA team from Pen, Raigad, carrying out inspections at food product stores ahead of the festive Diwali season, have seized a massive stock including imported dry fruits, chocolates and energy drinks collectively worth Rs 4.21 crore after conducting a raid at Ajfan International Retails LLP, a major outlet in Kamothe, Raigad, on Saturday.

Subsequently, legal action has been taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which governs the packaging and labelling of foods in India, responsibilities of food business operators (FBOs) to ensure that all food items meet statutory requirements throughout the supply chain and liability of manufacturers, packers, wholesalers, distributors and sellers regarding food safety and compliance. Because the stock kept for sale at the store was suspected to be misbranded, with flaws in labelling, lapses in FDA regulations and standard quality concerns regarding imported food products, sachin Adhav, food safety inspector, said that a total of 13 types of food products were seized.
