Hyderabad: Bharat Biotech’s cell and gene therapy arm Nucelion Therapeutics has entered into a manufacturing partnership with Bengaluru-based Pandorum Technologies to advance two govt-backed ophthalmology programmes using designer exosomes for advanced keratopathy and wet age-related macular degeneration.
Pandorum has secured support under the Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma-MedTech Sector scheme for the projects, which have a combined planned outlay of ₹16.97 crore, including up to ₹8 crore in PRIP funding.
The company said the exosomes are designed to address inflammation, fibrosis and vascular disease processes while supporting tissue repair. Pandorum is developing cell-free regenerative medicines based on engineered exosomes, nanoscale vesicles that carry biological signals between cells. Its platform links manufacturing methods, product activity and tissue response to guide development.
Pandorum’s advanced keratopathy programme is aimed at severe corneal disease and clinical evaluation, while the wet AMD project is in preclinical development before potential clinical translation.
Nucelion, a wholly owned Bharat Biotech subsidiary and cell and gene therapy contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), will support process development and manufacturing for the investigational therapies.
