The Nilgiris district received heavy rainfall last week, causing multiple landslides on the ghat road. Burliar recorded the highest rainfall of 25cm, triggering a major landslide in which a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus was buried, killing its driver. Following the disruption, traffic on the ghat road was suspended, and the Kotagiri road was being used as an alternative route between Udhagamandalam and Mettupalayam. Restoration work is under way on the affected stretch. Meanwhile, residents of Burliar had urged the district administration to resume bus services as students were unable to attend schools and colleges. At 5pm, it leaves the Coonoor bus stand bound for Burliar. Download the TOI App.
