Police paraded three of the four Sarsuna arrested accused barefoot and shirtless
The state commission took suo motu cognisance of the incident and asked the commissioner to submit a report by Nov 17. The arrested men, who were made to walk shirtless and barefoot, with a rope tied around their waist, were among the four persons accused of stripping and parading an 18-year-old youth, his father and the youth’s 19-year-old friend at gunpoint after the youth was spotted kissing a 13-year-old girl, purportedly his girlfriend.
WBHRC chairperson and retired judge Indra Prasanna Mukherji said the semi-naked parading of the accused appeared to be aimed at humiliating the prisoners. He said the police report must name the officer who gave the order for the act. The national commission, too, had said that the media reports, if true, raised serious concerns about human rights violations and asked the Kolkata Police commissioner to send a report within two weeks.
Kolkata: The West Bengal Human Rights Commission has sent a notice to Kolkata Police commissioner Ajay Nand over reports that police paraded three arrested accused semi-naked at Sarsuna in Behala ostensibly to reconstruct a crime.
