In Newark, Delaware, six people were shot near the University of Delaware campus shortly after 11.10pm on Saturday, police lieutenant Greg D’Elia said. Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said they are trying to determine if the shootings in the Deep Ellum neighborhood were related, the Associated Press reported.
Birmingham Police Department chief Michael Pickett said most spectators and families had left the stadium when the shooting took place nearby, along Graymont Avenue, where vendors had set up stalls. Police spokesperson De’Rell Freeman said one person had been detained and taken to police headquarters for questioning. Officers had also recovered and secured “multiple weapons”, he said. No arrests had been made, police said in a news release.
All six were taken to hospitals for treatment.
A preliminary investigation indicated that an altercation had taken place before the shooting, they added. Police in Dallas said they were investigating multiple reports of shootings in the Deep Ellum neighbourhood on Saturday night.
