Kanpur: The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) department on Saturday evening took action against three sweet manufacturing units and destroyed nearly 10 quintals of prepared sweets and around 270 kg of mawa. The estimated value of the destroyed products was about Rs 2.95 lakh.

FSDA teams inspected a sweet manufacturing unit in Swarn Jayanti Vihar and found around 10 quintals of coloured sweets ready for sale, according to assistant commissioner (Food) Sanjay Pratap Singh.

The assistant commissioner said a special drive was being conducted under the directions of district magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar ahead of Diwali to ensure the availability of safe and quality food products for consumers. The prepared sweets were allegedly substandard and unfit for human consumption. The team destroyed the entire stock and suspended the food licence of the unit. Another team also inspected a manufacturing unit in Daheli Sujanpur.
