Kochi : For over 100 days, residents of P&T Apartment complex in Mundamveli have been protesting unsafe living conditions and official neglect. “Our protest completed 100 days on Saturday when we held a mass hunger strike, hoping the authorities would hold talks with us over the series of promises they made. Greater Cochin Development Authority developed the Rs 14.6-crore housing complex to rehabilitate 78 low-income families from the flood-prone Perandoor Canal area in Kadavanthra. Since moving in early 2024, residents have faced constant miseries.

The families are worried as to how much longer they must endure living under leaking roofs with worms falling into their rooms,” said P&T Apartment residents association president Abhilash P Parameswaran. “The constant worm infestation and dampness have made daily life unbearable, creating serious health hazards and mental agony for children, women and elderly residents,” he said. With no resolution in sight, they have intensified the stir, demanding immediate rehabilitation as severe structural problems continue to jeopardise the safety and health of hundreds of families. However, nothing happened. The residents demand that their basic right to safe housing be met.
