Jhansi: The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment’s Jhansi sector team on Monday arrested a junior engineer (JE) of Regional Pollution Control Board office in Banda allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a granite crusher plant operator.
The victim operator received a notice via WhatsApp on June 18, 2026, allegedly without any survey of his unit, according to the complaint. The JE allegedly told the complainant that he would have to pay Rs 1 lakh to the regional officer to ensure that no action was taken on the notice. Dy SP vigilance Nayeem Mansoori said a case has been registered against the accused under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at City Kotwali.
A confidential inquiry was conducted, which reportedly confirmed the allegations. The accused, Salman, was caught red-handed by the vigilance team while accepting the money. The plant operator alleged that the JE demanded the amount to prevent action against his unit over a notice issued by the pollution control board. Subsequently, the regional officer of the pollution control board called him to the office. When he met regional officer Madhavi Kamalvanshi, she reportedly asked him to meet Salman, the junior engineer. When the complainant expressed his inability to pay such a large amount, the JE allegedly refused to accept anything less, claiming that this was what he had been instructed. The operator approached the vigilance establishment in Jhansi and lodged a complaint. Subsequently, a team was constituted and Salman was arrested accepting the amount at the regional pollution control board office in Indira Nagar, Banda.
He will be presented before the special magistrate anti-corruption in Banda on Tuesday.
