The accused, Naresh, allegedly lifted the boy by his legs, slammed his head against the ground several times and then assaulted him with a stick, according to investigators.

Ahmedabad : A 10-year-old boy was allegedly killed by his father in Vinchiya village of Sanand taluka on Sunday evening. In her complaint filed with Sanand police, the woman stated that she had left her marital home around 10 days ago after her husband allegedly assaulted her during an argument.

Police said the accused claimed he feared his son would eventually inherit the family’s traditional witch doctor practice and wanted to prevent that from happening. Police said that when questioned, the accused told his wife that he had inherited the practice of being a witchdoctor from his father. Police said the accused will undergo a psychoanalytical examination to assess his mental condition.

Since their son, Karan , was preparing for examinations, he had remained with his father. He allegedly claimed that the work had caused him significant mental and physical distress and that he did not want his son to continue the tradition. He reportedly confessed that he killed the child to ensure no one in the family followed the practice after him. Investigators are continuing to probe the circumstances surrounding the murder and the accused’s alleged confession.

When family members reached the village around 9pm, they found the boy’s bloodstained body on a cot near the shrine outside their home. The accused was lying on another cot nearby, with bloodstains visible on his clothes.

Sanand police have registered a murder case and launched an investigation.
