Apple Music’s Selfie Sing shows lyrics on screen while you record yourself singing along on iPhone.
A new feature called Selfie Sing, spotted in the iOS 27.3 beta, lets iPhone users record a video of themselves singing along to a track while the lyrics scroll on screen. The feature builds on Apple Music Sing, the karaoke mode Apple added with iOS 16.2 in 2022, which lets users turn down a song’s vocals and follow highlighted lyrics.
The find was first shared by Aaron Perris, according to AppleInsider. Apple Music is turning karaoke into something you can actually post. Once the song ends, the clip can be saved to Photos or shared straight away. He used an Animoji in his demo to avoid posting a video of himself singing, though Animoji isn’t part of the feature.
Selfie Sing works only on iPhone and a curated playlist for now
Apple has put together a dedicated Selfie Sing playlist of sing-along favourites, including Wonderwall by Oasis, Respect by Aretha Franklin, 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton and Baby One More Time by Britney Spears. The playlist already appears on iOS 27.2, but the camera option needs the iOS 27.3 beta. AppleInsider also notes that an iPad Pro on iPadOS 27.3 doesn’t offer the camera, which keeps the feature iPhone-only. The stable iOS 27.3 update is expected to roll out in December, alongside new Siri AI features and a redesigned Health app.
When a supported song is playing, a camera toggle shows up just below the vocal volume control, AppleInsider reports. Tapping it opens a recording view that shoots only vertical video. After recording, you can adjust how loud your voice sits in the mix and pick from four effects: Megaphone, Echo, Concert Hall and Studio. iPhone Duo owners get an extra trick. Selfie Sing works with the phone’s rear-camera selfie mode, moving the recording to the outer display so you can use the better cameras and still read the lyrics. Not every song in the catalogue supports it.
