New Delhi: Delhi Police ’s special cell has registered an FIR following a complaint alleging the circulation of suspected Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM) through social media platforms.
Police said the case was registered on Oct 8 under Sections 67 and 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Around 10 links were flagged in connection with the complaint, raising concerns over the alleged online circulation of prohibited material involving children. In July, Delhi Police registered 160 cases related to the circulation and sharing of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and rescued 588 minors as part of a special drive against crimes involving children.
“Acting on our directions, Delhi Police has registered an FIR regarding the availability of Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM) on social media platforms,” Kanoongo posted on X. National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) member Priyank Kanoongo claimed that Delhi Police registered the FIR on his directions.
Last year, South district police apprehended two individuals in separate cases involving the alleged uploading and transmission of CSAM following alerts generated by the US-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
The Special Cell has initiated an investigation to verify the allegations, examine the flagged links and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the suspected circulation of the material.
