Numbers showed that 91,153 vehicles were registered this Oct, the highest monthly figure so far this year, but lower than 1,14,776, recorded in Oct 2025. New Delhi: Vehicle sales picked up in Delhi just ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali .
The 91,153 new vehicle registrations were 8.67% higher than this Sept’s 83,884. The registration surge before Dhanteras, which is on Nov 6, and Diwali on Nov 8, indicates that buyers have started making festive purchases. Jan recorded 85,339 registrations, while March saw 70,698. In 2023, when Diwali fell in Nov, vehicle sales increased from 58,183 in Oct to 80,672 in Nov, a rise of 38.7%. In 2025, when Diwali was in Oct, the sales were higher in that month — 1,14,776 compared to 88,929 in Nov. In 2024, when the festive season was spread across Oct and Nov, registrations stood at 87,860 in Oct and 83,364 in Nov. Of the 91,153 vehicles registered this Oct, 64,201 were two-wheelers or 70.4% of the total registrations. Cars accounted for 21,010 registrations, or nearly 23%. Car registrations rose 15.7% — from 18,161 in Sept to 21,010 in Oct. Two-wheeler registrations increased 8.5% from 59,156 to 64,201 in the same period. Delhi registered 13,296 EV sales in Oct, which was a 50.7% jump from 8,825 in Oct 2025. The figure was nearly five times the 2,672 registrations recorded in Oct 2024. In 2024, when Diwali fell in October, EV registrations stood at 2,672 that month and 2,433 in Nov. In 2025, Oct registrations were 8,825 against 7,196 in Nov. Delhi recorded 13,296 electric vehicle registrations in Oct, the second-highest monthly figure of 2026, after Sept’s 13,544. Though registrations dipped marginally by 1.83%, they remained above 13,000 for the second consecutive month. The segment has seen steady growth this year, with registrations rising from 7,229 in Jan to 13,296 in Oct, an increase of nearly 84%.
A senior Delhi govt official said, “With Diwali falling in Nov this year, the upcoming registration figures will be closely watched to assess if the festive rush translates into another increase in vehicle purchases. Dhanteras registrations will offer an early indication of demand, he said. Two-wheelers were the most bought vehicles, and electric vehicle sales also rose significantly over last Oct. The Oct sales were higher than the registrations in every other month this year. The timing of Diwali appears to influence the distribution of purchases between Oct and Nov. Cars have shown stronger month-on-month growth than two-wheelers.
