Action taken against doc caught hitting nurse
Madurai: The directorate of medical and rural health services has initiated disciplinary action under Rule 17(b) against a doctor after CCTV footage showing him hitting a nurse at Puliyangudi Govt Hospital surfaced on Thursday. Nurse Lavanya , 27, was deputed to Puliyangudi for 15 days every month due to staff shortage.
A hospital medical officer initially claimed the two were merely ‘playing’ and said the nurse had submitted a written explanation. However, the directorate condemned the incident as punishable misconduct and said workplace violence would not be tolerated. A detailed inquiry has also been ordered. The doctor, Vijay Pratap Singh, is posted at Sankarankovil GH. The doctor allegedly struck her following an argument in the presence of patients and hospital staff. Joint director of medical and rural health services Premalatha has been directed to hold a comprehensive inquiry and submit a detailed report.
