Hyderabad: The Revanth Reddy-led cabinet has given the go-ahead for repairs and rehabilitation of three Kaleshwaram barrages — Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla — at a cost of Rs 4,193 crore and as per National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) guidelines. It also discussed in detail the proposed repairs of the three Kaleshwaram barrages, along with arrangements for the second edition of ‘Invest Telangana Global Summit 2026’, which is expected to attract 3,500 investors and industrialists from across the world. The cabinet meeting, chaired by chief minister A Revanth Reddy, also took key decisions on the launch of two schemes — Rs 5 lakh insurance cover (Indiramma Jeevitha Bheema) and Indiramma Saree distribution in Siddipet on Nov 19 on the birth anniversary of former PM Indira Gandhi. Srinivasa Reddy said as many as 2.25 lakh Indiramma houses have already been completed, and the programme would be conducted in all completed houses on Nov 7, 8 and 9. He said the cabinet also resolved to hold a public meeting in Siddipet on Nov 19, marking the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. On the same day, the Congress govt would launch the distribution of Indiramma saris and launch the Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme (Indiramma Jeevitha Bheema), which would provide ₹5 lakh life insurance coverage to every family in the state. To facilitate this, it approved the repeal of the Telangana State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act, 2003. To strengthen judicial infrastructure, the cabinet has sanctioned 136 posts for newly established and additional courts at Kataram, Elkathurthy, Siddipet, Choutuppal, Mahabubabad and Vemulawada.
Briefing the media about cabinet decisions, information and public relations (I&PR) minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the cabinet decided to organise ‘Maa Indiramma Intlo Deepavali’ programme across the state on Diwali. The minister said the cabinet also approved the abolition of the existing combined Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) commission and decided to establish separate commissions. Revanth Reddy would participate in the programme in his assembly constituency, Kodangal, while ministers and MLAs would do so with beneficiaries of Indiramma housing scheme in their respective constituencies. Each commission would have a chairperson and five members, enabling quicker resolution of grievances relating to SCs and STs, he added. The move is expected to improve the functioning of subordinate courts and expedite the disposal of cases, the minister added.
