To ensure faster testing, there was an urgent need for more testing vans,” said a senior MSEDCL officer. In such cases, this testing van is utilised,” the officer said. Chief engineer Sundar Latpate said, “Providing an uninterrupted and smooth power supply is our top priority.
“This van acts as a mobile, high-tech laboratory to detect faults in underground power cables. When a cable gets damaged, digging up the entire road to locate the fault is not feasible. The van pinpoints the exact location of a fault, allowing technicians to carry out repairs with minimal excavation and restore power quickly. It can determine the precise route and depth of underground cables. In areas with multiple cables, it can identify the exact faulty line within minutes or hours. “It eliminates the need to dig up entire roads or footpaths, thereby saving costs, while its digital system provides precise fault locations. However, it does not assist with overhead power systems,” the officer added. Both vans have been stationed at the Nashik Testing Division Office in Satpur. Nashik Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority Commissioner Shekhar Singh and MSEDCL chief engineer Sundar Latpate inducted the vans into service recently. Our system is now fully equipped to quickly detect and repair technical faults in underground cables. Download the TOI App.

Nashik : In view of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, the Nashik zone, comprising Nashik and Ahilyanagar districts, has received two state-of-the-art underground cable testing vans to ensure minimal power interruptions. The Nashik zone was left with only one testing van after its second vehicle reached the end of its lifespan. Since these vans are assigned to the Nashik zone, they will be deployed across both Nashik and Ahilyanagar districts depending on the urgency of the situation.
