Educational institutions in Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Baghpat will close for the Kanwar Yatra
In Meerut, schools, colleges, universities and technical institutions have been ordered to remain closed till August 12. The closure covers Classes 1 to 12 and institutions affiliated with the Basic Shiksha Parishad, UP Board, CBSE, CISCE, madrassa board and other recognised boards. Earlier, Muzaffarnagar had also announced the closure of schools and colleges from August 3 to 10 amid the Kanwar Yatra. The district administration additionally ordered meat shops and restaurants along Kanwar routes to remain closed till August 12 and introduced phased traffic diversions. The Namo Bharat corridor will also see temporary entry and exit restrictions at several stations, news agency PTI reported. The measures have been announced to ensure student safety and facilitate traffic and security arrangements during the annual pilgrimage. In Ghaziabad, schools from nursery to Class 12, along with colleges, universities and technical institutions, will remain closed from August 4 to August 12. The Baghpat administration has also ordered the closure of government and private schools from Classes 1 to 12 till August 12. Meanwhile, several entry and exit gates at 17 Namo Bharat stations between Ghaziabad and Modipuram will remain closed from August 4 to August 12. At most stations, Gate No 2 will remain closed. Begumpul will have Gates 2 and 3 shut, while Gates 3 and 4 at Duhai and Gates 3 and 5 at Ghaziabad will remain closed. Trains will operate every eight minutes between 6 am and 10 pm until August 14, PTI reported.
Government and private higher educational and technical institutions have also been included, PTI reported. The administration said the move was aimed at ensuring student safety, maintaining law and order and facilitating smooth traffic movement, PTI reported.
The district administration said the decision was taken in view of the large number of Kanwar pilgrims passing through the district during the Shravan Shivratri period. Scheduled examinations will, however, be conducted according to the existing timetable. The district administration cited the movement of a large number of Kanwariyas on various routes and said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of students. The administration said lakhs of Kanwar pilgrims carrying Ganga water from Haridwar were passing through the district, while devotees were also visiting prominent Shiva temples for jalabhishek. The NCRTC said the temporary restrictions were imposed following administrative directions for security and traffic management during the Kanwar Yatra.
Examinations already notified will be held as scheduled. Authorities have warned institutions to strictly comply with the orders. The affected stations include Modipuram, Meerut North, MES Colony, Begumpul, Bhaisali, Meerut Central, Brahampuri, Shatabdi Nagar, Rithani, Partapur, Meerut South, Modinagar North, Modinagar South, Muradnagar, Duhai, Guldhar and Ghaziabad. Parking facilities on the affected sides of the stations will also be unavailable. The NCRTC has advised passengers to use alternate entry and exit gates. Despite the restrictions, Namo Bharat services will continue normally across the Sarai Kale Khan-Modipuram corridor.
