Mumbai: BMC on Tuesday floated a Rs 9.23 crore tender for Phase 2A of the Kala Ghoda precinct development project, which will involve upgrading roads, footpaths, drainage, landscaping and street lighting in the heritage precinct of south Mumbai.
Infrastructure Upgrades in Kala Ghoda Area
The ongoing infrastructure project includes upgrades to four key roads: Chamber of Commerce Lane, Forbes Street, Nagindas Master Road, and Nanik Motwani Road. Local BJP corporator Makrand Narwekar highlighted that the first phase of this initiative was inaugurated in July by the Maharashtra chief minister. This phase saw the renovation of several roads in the Kala Ghoda area, specifically V B Gandhi Marg (Forbes Street), Ropewalk Lane, Saibaba Road, Rutherford Street, and B Bharucha Road. Improvements include redesigned streets, enhanced lighting, open-air cafe seating, and landscaped public spaces.

We have already spoken to Mumbai traffic police to get these made pedestrian-only zones on weekends. The next phase of this project will include robotic parking of vehicles at Kala Ghoda junction with a plaza around it. The road works will include clearing the sites, removal of temporary structures, shifting or relocation of essential utilities, street poles, traffic signals and road signboards, excavation and construction of road layers. The project will also include the installation of basalt and granite cobblestones, repair and construction of chambers and installation of recessed chamber covers with ducts. Download the TOI App.
