Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Tuesday disposed of bail applications filed by alleged kidney-racket kingpin Ramkrishna Malleshmansanchu and Delhi-based doctor Ravindrapal Singh after their lawyers sought permission to withdraw the pleas when the court indicated it was inclined to reject them.
The court dismissed the petition after finding that an affidavit submitted with it was fabricated and imposed a Rs 25,000 penalty. Both are accused in a case registered under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act in connection with an alleged kidney-selling racket in Brahmapuri, Chandrapur district. The prosecution alleged that Malleshmansanchu coordinated the racket and arranged kidneys for patients requiring transplants by allegedly offering money to financially vulnerable people. Investigators alleged Singh travelled from Delhi to perform transplant surgeries. The pleas came up before Justice MM Nerlikar. Senior counsel and govt pleader Deven Chauhan represented the state and was assisted by Ujjwal Phasate, who opposed their bail pleas. After hearing both sides, the court indicated it was not inclined to grant bail. The accused then sought permission to withdraw their respective pleas, which the court allowed. The latest proceedings concern only the bail applications and do not determine the guilt of either accused. Download the TOI App.
Singh had earlier faced an adverse order from the Nagpur bench in a separate petition seeking quashing of the criminal case and charge sheet.
