Challenges in Pipeline Installation for Metro Construction
The civic official warned that complications may arise if the installation of the 72-inch pipeline encounters obstacles. An IIT study on the Pink Line metro construction has indicated that the pipeline should be laid before the commencement of metro construction to avoid further complexities.
Kolkata: Hurdles have been cleared for the construction of a 12.5-km metro Pink line that will branch out from the existing Baranagar metro station of the Blue line (New Garia-Dakshineswar corridor) to connect Barrackpore in the city’s northern suburbia. But a section of Kolkata Municipal Corporation officials is worried over ‘losing’ one of the dedicated water main pipes that carry potable water from Palta water treatment plant to Tallah reservoir in large volume. If this pipe is withdrawn and no substitute pipes are laid within a specified timeline, residents in large parts of north and central Kolkata will suffer from water shortage next summer.
